Trump Voter ID Bill Passes House After Speaker Johnson Ends GOP Revolt

The House of Representatives has passed President Trump's voter identification legislation, known as the Save America Act, after Speaker Mike Johnson navigated a difficult internal rebellion within his own party to get the bill through. The path to passage was far from smooth, involving days of stalled action and last-minute negotiations. A Rocky Road Through the House Floor Just days before the bill's passage, a renewed rebellion among House Republicans had brought action on the floor to a standstill. The internal pushback was serious enough that Speaker Johnson made the decision to send members home early ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, effectively pausing progress on the legislation until tensions could be addressed. The rebellion reflected divisions within the Republican party over specific provisions in the voter ID bill, with some members expressing concerns that ultimately required further negotiation before they were willing to support the legislation. Walmart Cashier Arrested for Hiding $2,700 Winning Lottery Receipt from Elderly Customer in Florida

A Walmart cashier in DeLand, Florida has been arrested after investigators say she pocketed a receipt connected to a winning Florida Lottery ticket worth $2,700 — belonging to an elderly customer who had come to the store specifically to claim his prize. The incident, which was captured on the store's own surveillance cameras, has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the safety of claiming lottery winnings at retail locations.

What Happened at the DeLand Walmart

On a Sunday morning, an elderly man visited the Walmart convenience store located along South Woodland Boulevard in DeLand, Florida, to claim his winnings from a Florida Lottery ticket totaling $2,700. The cashier on duty, 40-year-old Tameka Hall, provided him with instructions on how to claim the prize money. The transaction appeared to go smoothly — but hours later, the man realized something was wrong.

When he returned home, the customer discovered he had never received the receipt that is required to officially redeem a Florida Lottery prize of that amount. Without that receipt, he could not claim his winnings. He immediately returned to the Walmart and reported the missing receipt to store management.

Surveillance Video Tells the Whole Story

The store manager wasted no time reviewing the security footage — and what it showed was damning. The surveillance video allegedly captured Tameka Hall folding the winning lottery receipt and placing it directly into the left pocket of her uniform vest before leaving work for the day.

When deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office met with Hall the following Monday morning inside Walmart's own security office, she offered an explanation. She claimed that she had become distracted by another customer after speaking with the elderly victim, accidentally placed the receipt in her pocket, and had intended to hand it over to a manager — but never got around to it.

Investigators were not convinced. Deputies accompanied Hall to her vehicle, where they searched and recovered the winning lottery receipt. She was placed under arrest on the spot and now faces a felony grand theft charge. Walmart confirmed that Hall is no longer employed by the company.

How to Protect Your Winning Lottery Ticket

The incident has drawn attention from lottery experts across the country. Oscar Acosta, founder of LottoExpert.net and a recognized authority on lottery participation, urged all players to take immediate steps to protect their winning tickets the moment they realize they have won.

Acosta advises winners to sign the back of their ticket as soon as possible, take clear photographs of both the front and back of the ticket, and keep all receipts that are associated with the claiming process. He also recommends that winners of significant prizes consider going in person to official lottery offices rather than relying on retail locations.

"There is a level of trust," Acosta noted, adding that the process requires a receipt and that winners of major prizes are generally better off handling the claim directly in person rather than through a third party.

A Growing Problem in the Lottery Industry

While cases of lottery fraud by retail employees are relatively rare, they do occur — and this incident is a reminder that even a trusted transaction at a well-known retail chain can go wrong. As lottery participation continues to grow across the United States, experts say the risk of such incidents increases alongside it.

Florida Lottery players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the official claiming process, always retain their receipts, and report any suspicious behavior at retail locations immediately to store management or law enforcement.

Tameka Hall now faces a felony grand theft charge in Volusia County, Florida. The case will proceed through the Florida court system. The elderly victim's lottery winnings of $2,700 are expected to be returned to him now that the receipt has been recovered by law enforcement.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has not released additional details about the timeline for prosecution, but the case is considered straightforward given the clear surveillance footage and the recovery of the receipt from Hall's vehicle.

Conclusion

What should have been a happy moment — an elderly man collecting a $2,700 lottery prize — turned into a frustrating ordeal thanks to the alleged actions of a Walmart cashier who thought she could get away with it. The surveillance camera, however, told a different story. This case is a powerful reminder to always protect your lottery tickets, demand your receipt, and never leave a prize claim location without confirming that all necessary documentation is in your hands.
